A comment on comments

It's a little over 4 months since I started blogging. I never knew it would be so addictive - or fun. Or that I had so much to write about!

I like people reading my blog and leaving behind comments. But - as many of you have noticed - I do not reply.

Why? Well, it was a policy decision of sorts when I started blogging. A way of limiting the amount of time and energy spent on the activity.

But policies can and do change. And hence, I have decided to reply to comments - as and when I feel it may add some value.

Also, I have decided to disallow "anonymous" comments. If I put my name with my opinion - you need to too :)

  5. Good decision. If you disallow anonymous comments, only bloggers will be able to post comments. Aren't you ignoring a large chunk of visitors (who might not necessarily be bloggers)?

    anony still working?!
But non-bloggers can use the "other" option. They must give their email/webpage, I guess.

  9. Great! That's sure a good move to involve and respect your readers but as blog becomes popular some people (ex: Amita Varma) tend to disallow comments again, since they have luxury of having wide readership their attitude for most reader (who would comment like what people on this post have done, "i agree", "good", "great", etc.) shifts to "who cares"! As a reader, even though perhaps less "intellectual" than the author, it still sounds arrogant! Lets see what do you in time...good for now.

  10. Umm..hmm. Thats a nice tweak to the 'policy'. But, I am still waiting for your reply to my comment on what I thought to be a very highly biased view towards the motives of desis living/working in the US (regarding your article on rediff).

Can anyone tell me where I can see the replies to the comments if at all there have been any? Is there a seperate section for that which has to be accessed in a different manner?

  15. HI Rashmi,
Its really gud news that u will read comments and probably reply to them.
But i think its kinda late , cause I already had asked your opinion a few times.
As they say better late than never!
Now atleast you can tell me how do i start selecting topics for writing blogs.
Previously i used to post gud articles on my blog. But only recently I typed in somthing from my own head.
    Please do go to
shaxank.blogspot.com and read "Testing Lives" if possible.
And put up a comment as to what and where should I improve.
    Thanks and Regards.

  16. Shashank, I always read the comments. I have a pretty crazy work schedule (at times). Like yesterday - I did not even post an entry, leave alone reply to comments :)

Re: what u can blog about - there's no formula. Anything you've experienced or feel strongly about would be a good place to start!

  17. Looks like a bit of "Animal Farm" attitude exists everywhere. The best works are anonymous and so are the best quotes.
People would prefer to remain anonymous but would want others to reveal their identities.. Pretty straight double standard'ism...
