I will put up a South Zone - II for Andhra and Karnataka.

Lastly, we need someone from Kerala to do an overview of engineering colleges in the state. State write ups for Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and HP are also remaining. If you're interested in taking up any of them, get in touch with rashmi_b@yahoo.com.

  1. Rashmi,

I seriously doubt if you can do a credible rating for all the colleges. Problem here would be that there is so little to distingish these colleges from each other... the students would always try to present a better picture than it is... and you have no means of verifying this with each of these colleges...

My suggestion would be for you to limit yourself to top 20-30 colleges...only those whose claims can be verified...

  2. Gaurav I appreciate your concerns but unfortunately JAM is not in the business of stating the obvious. We all know which are the top 20-30 colleges.

This project is an effort to help students who can't get into the top 20-30 colleges to identify other good colleges.

I know the undertaken task is a difficult one but for the benefit of the students somebody has to do that difficult job.

I understand the intention... my concern is whether you can verify the claims made by such a large number of students/colleges...

what i can see is that we may have one college being ranked at say 350'th position this year... next year the students and college realise the importance of having a good rank and the same college may end up at 35'th... without any real improvement...

instead of helping students... i think this kind of scenario would end up adding to the confusion...

    what do you think?

  7. Rashmi,
Sorry - this comment is not specific to this post.
This is just to share with you a website which you may find interesting - if you have not seen it already.

  8. There is a curious phenomenon that prevails among the admin at Amrita, an approximate description of which would be 'an exaggerated sense of entitlement'. Now if you were ever a mail-receiving resident of the Amrita hostels, you probably would have noticed every single mail you received duly slit and read the night before. Even the parcels were not spared the blade.
This is for the benefit of those of you who don't know what a sense of entitlement is. It is kind of like the way in which the admin think your life and the way you lead it have been signed over to them the moment you join the college.
