CNBC TV18's 'Uncovered' had a feature on Indian business schools offering foreign degrees without AICTE approval.
IIPM and Rai are among the 36 Indian B schools who were issued notices by AICTE for offering 'foreign degrees' to students without getting the necessary green signal from the council.
In their defence, both IIPM and Rai claim that they are not offering any technical course - they are offering programs in planning and entrepreneurship.
In which case it is not clear why these programs use the term 'MBA' in their advertisements (MBA being classified as a technical subject coming under purview of AICTE).
Why not offer 'MPE' (Master in Planning & Entrepreneurship!)

ReplyDeleteThough, 'technically' (couldn't resist) - the 'management' institutes are right:
(i) They don't offer courses under the purview of AICTE
(ii) They are not in collaboration with foreign universities. As IIPM puts it, "IMI Europe awards the degree to IIPM students in recognition of the excellent course work of IIPM"

ReplyDeleteYa..IIPM has been under a lot of cloud.....I really admire the way u had taken the initiative to counter the bluff of IIPM, which they semantically tried to rebuff in leading national dailies...

not only are rai and iipm offering ambiguous courses..check out NIIT too..te gniit program at these people's institute is really bad, with hopeless faculty and repititive calsses on the same topic. they seemt o have a major hold interms of advertising, so they arent reall yaffected by the sting operation bug.
ReplyDeletePlus mr arindam chaudhari's house was featured on 'Home Shanti Home'. needless to say the entire house seems fake and artificial. felt like stepping inside a home decor store. And a guy who is supposed to really dyanmic and charismatic, could barely manage a word in front of the camera, stumbling, stuttering most of the time, with his doll like wife chipping in most of the time.
If this guy is the reason i should "dare to hink beyond the IIMS" i really must be insane.
i second the opinion on NIIT. In terms of branch facilities, inftastructure, faculty etc, it's a big fraud on gullible students. There should be a law against such swindling.... on the other hand people are also buying fare and lovely creams.. so may be people deserve to be swindled...

ReplyDeleteI have also heard that AICTE has sent a notice to IIPM over the use of 'Indian Institute' that can be used only by Government Institutes.
IIPM folks would definitely want to forget the year 2005.They are having a tough time.:)
ReplyDeleteBTW,if I am correct even IIMs do not offer an 'MBA degree'. What they offer is a'Post Graduate Diploma in Business Admn'.There is no doubt that this is equivalent to an MBA,but technically speaking it is not as 'MBA' degree.I guess, FMS is one of the institutes in India that offers a 'MBA' Degree.MBA Degree can only be offered by Universities.ISB too is having a tough time answering this question for international applicants :)
Saw that program and I think these guys will get away with calling their program MPE in spirit. I wish they would advertise it as MPE too and AICTE would take notice if they do not.
