"Dare to dream beyond" or ...

Almost every week I get email queries from students who want to know whether joining IIPM is "worth it". Reason being the full page ads the b school puts out in leading newspapers where it claims to be as good or even better than IIMs.

Well, we at JAM decided to check out some of those claims, namely the "rankings", infrastructure, placements and accreditation of the institute. The result is an article Arjun Ravi put together after extensive research. Read it and decide for yourself!

I know this girl who did her M.B.A. from IIPM and she hasn't been able to find a job. It's a private institute and doesn't even have an entrance exam . u just have to pay through your nose to get admission.IIPM is only for those people who don't have the calibre to clear any MBA entrance exam.

    Hi
Article In JAM is excellent and KARWA SACH.You talked about IIPM but most of the MBA institutes are excellent in showing ROSY Picture.Ya Even,so called Best b-schools also do that,
Now talking about IIPM ,this article need to be published in National Daily but no Newspaper and Magazine will do that coz they will lose significant amount of revenue.
Dont blame IIPM alone,Print Media is also culprit, but Nothing can be done coz SAB GANDHA HAI PAR DHANDA HAI YEH,(company)
So prospective MBA students be careful,

  3. I think the IIM's should oppose the usage of "Dare to dream beyond the IIM's?". It is sad to note that the mainstream media are scared to expose the misdeeds of institutes like Amity and IIPM as they are dependent on them for the ad revenues. Some of the financial press brings out articles to express the dubious companies. A similar concerted effort is required to project the real picture to the student community. Any idea what is AICTE's role in this?

Excellent report. Even I felt that their ads were somewhat exaggerated. It's kinda sick tho' that institutes like this ( among others) play around with students' careers like this.

this is a SHOCKING revelation of IIPM done by JAM Mag. I always knew IIPM was a "chor" institute, but it would be dirty to this level, i never imagined. Apart from exaggerated ad's & all false promises & claims...to not give degree certificates to the students who have paid through their noses to your insti is highly disgusting!!!

JAM is doing a great deal of good for the prospective MBA students, by bringing to light the truth of such institutes.

One more area about B-Schools which needs to be uncovered or as they say "exposed" is the profiles that are offered by companies when they go recruiting to the B-Schools. Many a times one comes across big names on a B-School's placement list, but the profile offered is never known. This especially occurs in case of second rung B-Schools.

Hoping to read may more such articles in the future from the JAM Mag.

  6. Hey Rashmi

That was a great initiative by JAM and kudos to Arjun too,for the research he put in.Picked up the mag today but didn't expect to find an expose in it...wasn't shocked or jolted but definitely surprised...Maybe I should start a professional college after I do my MBA...I could get even more creative with the ads.On a serious note though ,this just goes to prove that "If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is "

    Hi Rashmi,

Plz post this article in the next edition of BusinessWorld. You would be doing a lot of students good by bringing a clear picture of such Fishy institutes.

Additionally , try reading any of the so called books by the Father-Son ( Chaudaries) duo on their absurd economic theories. Its the best Comic relief in recent times..

  8. Hi Rashmi,
Great to see the response about the IIPM article. I think doing the article was a great direction JAM has taken. Who's next?! :)

@kaps - AICTE has no role in this matter, as IIPM is not accredited to them, UGC, or any Indian university. The degrees IIPM gives out are from the International Management Institute, Belgium.

@calvin - that's a browser error. Firefox (God bless it) still has a few minor bugs. If you're not enthusiastic about using IE, I recoomend you use Avant Browser (www.avantbrowser.com) which is based on IE, but is more secure.

  9. In my opinion what is more important is asking yourself "if you have aptitude to do the MBA". Another important thing, is to know the value of money. If you do not know the value of money, there is point in doing an MBA, 'cos the course is all about maximizing profit. I have seen fresh college grads, enrolling for the MBA. How much will they learn, when they do not know the economy/industry/business environment. Atleast 3-5 years of experience should be mandated.

  10. That was an amazing thing you guys did. THings just had to come out in the open. But my only worry is that such insights don't reach a lot of people, particularly the ones who fall prey. I sincerely hopoe that this pieece gets popular.
